Why Noxxic No Longer Publishes Rotation Guides
Noxxic used to publish rotation priority lists for every spec in World of Warcraft. We've removed them from all class guides. This article explains why and what we show instead.
Why We Removed Them
Everything on Noxxic such as our DPS Rankings, Character Sims, stat priorities, gear recommendations, and spec comparisons are powered by SimulationCraft. When game data changes, we re-run simulations and those results update the site automatically. That's how we keep the site accurate and current with the game.
Rotation guides were an important part of Noxxic in its early days, but they sit in an awkward place with modern Noxxic. Rotation guides can't be reliably generated from SimC alone, they require theorycrafting and ongoing manual review. And with the talent build system introduced in Dragonflight, each build can significantly change the rotation, which means a proper modern rotation guide needs to account for many different builds and talent choices. That level of manual upkeep pulls focus from the simulation-backed tools and data that Noxxic is built around.
Rather than publish rotation content we can't keep reliably accurate, we decided to remove it.
What Replaced Them
Rotation pages for DPS and Tank specs now show two things:
Performance by Play Style — A DPS comparison of how each spec performs using the full SimC action priority list (APL) versus WoW's built-in assist modes (Assisted Highlight and One Button). This data comes directly from our rankings simulations and shows you exactly what each assist mode costs in DPS for your spec.
SimulationCraft APL — The actual action priority list that SimC uses to simulate the spec. This isn't a human-readable rotation guide, it's the raw logic the simulator executes. We show it so you can see exactly what the current APL is in SimC.
Healer specs no longer have a rotation page. Healers can't be meaningfully simulated with SimC, so there was no reliable data to show. Healer guides are still available with general stat priorities, talent builds, gems, enchants, and consumable recommendations.
What Noxxic Focuses On
Noxxic is a simulation-backed optimization tool. The things we focus on (like Character Sims, DPS and Tank Rankings, stat weights, gear and consumable recommendations) are things where SimulationCraft produces reliable, repeatable results that we are confident in. That's where our effort goes.
If you want to see how your character specifically performs, run a Character Sim. Your results are generated with SimC using your actual gear and talents.
