Tank Rotation & Cooldowns

This rotation offers a general priority list for Vengeance Demon Hunter abilities, along with key cooldowns at the bottom. It's based on a standard build and is here to help while we work on a smarter, build-aware system. If you are very new to the game or this class, we added info on the new assisted rotation features at the bottom of this guide. Updated for the latest patch in World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Patch (12.0.1).

Single Target

Pre-place Sigil Of Flame 1 second before pull.

Unless performing Art Of The Glaive combo.
Buffed by Art Of The Glaive as first combo ability.
Buffed by Art Of The Glaive.
On cooldown to activate Art Of The Glaive if Reavers Glaive unavailable.
When near 2 stacks or for defensive needs.
On cooldown.
If at or near 2 charges.
With 5 Soul Fragments and Fiery Brand active.
With 5 Soul Fragments.
With Fiery Brand active and >2 seconds remaining.
On cooldown.
With 2 Soul Fragments.
Avoid overcapping Fury.
When Fury won't cap.
With 0-1 Soul Fragments as filler.
As filler or out of range.

Start with Sigil Of Flame, then prioritize Reavers Glaive and Fracture for Art Of The Glaive combos. Use Soul Cleave and Spirit Bomb with Soul Fragments, and maintain cooldowns like Fiery Brand and Immolation Aura.

If Reavers Glaive unavailable.
When near 2 stacks or for defensive needs.
On target affected by Fiery Brand.
On cooldown, avoid overcapping Soul Fragments.
When most enemies are affected by Fiery Brand.
If at or near 2 charges.
With 5 Soul Fragments.
With 2 Soul Fragments.
Unless needed defensively soon.
With 0-1 Soul Fragments as filler.
As filler or out of range.

Start with Sigil Of Flame, then prioritize Reavers Glaive and Fracture for Art Of The Glaive combos. Use Spirit Bomb and Soul Cleave with Soul Fragments, and maintain cooldowns like Fiery Brand and Immolation Aura.

Cooldowns

Use for both offensive and defensive needs, align with Fiery Brand for max damage.
Use for damage reduction and to amplify Fire damage, align with Metamorphosis when possible.
Use on cooldown to generate Soul Fragments and activate Reavers Glaive.
Use Sigil Of Silence, Sigil Of Misery, and Sigil Of Chains for crowd control and utility.

Use Metamorphosis and Fiery Brand for both damage and survivability, aligning them for maximum effect. Utilize Sigil Of Spite and utility sigils for additional control and Soul Fragment generation.

New to Class? Try Assisted Rotation

Patch 11.1.7 introduced new features that make it eaiser to pick and play new characters. These new settings can be enabled from settings » gameplay enhancements:

Single-Button Assistant
Assisted Highlight
Cooldown Manager

If you are new to World of Warcraft or a certain class, enabling Assisted Highlight and Cooldown Manager can help you learn which abilities to prioritize and use.

While the Single-Button Assistant can be a much easier and more accessible way to play the game, it does come with a slight performance hit due to a small GCD penalty, as you will have to wait 25% longer in between spells and abilities.
