PvE Guide updated for Patch 12.0.1

DPS Rotation Approaches

The following comparison shows how DPS changes across rotation approaches using SimulationCraft. Default Rotation represents standard play, while Assisted Highlight and One Button use WoW's built-in features. Updated for the latest patch in World of Warcraft: Midnight (12.0.1).

Performance by Rotation Approach

Default Rotation (APL)90,243 DPS100.0%
Assisted Highlight81,229 DPS90.0%
One Button72,761 DPS80.6%

Assisted Highlight-10.0% DPSHighlights your next ability in the action bar
One Button-19.4% DPSAutomates your rotation with a single button press

These results depend on how well each spec's rotation is implemented in SimulationCraft. Some specs have more complete APL and assist mode support than others, which can affect the size of the gap. Specs with complex rotations or newer designs may show larger differences.

SimulationCraft APLc262771

The action priority list (APL) is the set of rules SimulationCraft follows when simulating this spec. It determines which abilities to use, in what order, and under what conditions. APLs are maintained by the SimulationCraft community and updated as the game changes. You can use this to understand what the simulator is doing, or paste it into a SimC profile to customize and run your own simulations.

For rotation-specific advice, most classes have active community discords with up-to-date rotations and discussion.
