AoE details

This category measures best-case sustained AoE damage in a clean, stand-still fight against a raid boss and four adds that stay up for the whole fight, with full raid buffs and near-perfect execution. A spec's DPS in this category is its damage to all five enemies added together. Five enemies is where most AoE abilities reach their target cap, so it tests each spec's AoE without rewarding uncapped abilities the way a huge pack would. Nothing dies and nothing moves, so read it as the ceiling for AoE damage.

Common questions

Why doesn’t AoE DPS match my damage meter?

To compare DPS with in-game, the conditions would first need to be identical, and in this particular sim, the targets are up 100% of the time and they are hit 100% of the time. In-game, typical encounters would see the amount of adds change, they’d move around, and they’d die at different times. This sim and these rankings are useful to see how well specs scale from single-target fights. The “vs ST” column gives you a quick glimpse of that.
