Stat Priority (5.4.8)
Stats are the core of your character and how you choose to balance those stats will greatly impact the effectiveness of your Frost Mage. Use this guide to select the stats that are the most important for your Mage and learn how to prioritize those stats to optimize your performance.
Spell Hit (6%) > Intellect > Haste > Crit (25%) > Mastery
PvP Resilience and PvP PowerPatch 5.3 introduced major changes to PvP Resilience and PvP Power to reduce their effectiveness. In general, traditional secondary stats like Crit, Haste, and Mastery are now much more effective in PvP. Our stat priorities are based on the best available information, but we expect our recommendations to change as the PvP season progresses.
Spell Hit (6%) The Hit cap of 6% (2040 Rating) will eliminate the chance for any special ability to miss against other players. To check your Hit, open your character panel and then look under the Spell tab for “Hit Chance” and make sure it is at or just above 6%.
Intellect Increases damage and healing dealt by all spells and slightly improves critical strike chance.
Haste Decreases cast time and increases DoT ticking speeds. Reduces the amount of time spent casting Evocation to regenerate Mana and maintain the Invocation buff.
Crit Increases the chance for your attacks to critically hit for additional damage. Thanks to Shatter, Frost Mages can reach high effective Crit rates with minimal Crit from their gear. It is possible for Frost Mages to effectively hit 100% Crit when hitting frozen targets. At 25% Crit, you will effectively have a 100% Crit rate against frozen players. Arcane Brilliance lowers the Crit required from 25% to 20%. If you are using Molten Armor, then you only need 15% Crit from your gear.
Mastery Mastery Icicles adds an additional Icicle attack that is created by Frostfire Bolt and Frostbolt. The Icicles are launched when you use Ice Lance or automatically when you hit 5 Icicles. Also, the mastery increases the damage done by your Summon Water Elemental.
