DPS Rotation & Cooldowns (5.4.8)

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Arms Warrior. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Stance: Use one of the following stances.

Normal Priority: Execute this priority while waiting for Collossus Smash.

  1. Colossus Smash Use as often as possible. Watch for Sudden Death procs.
  2. Mortal Strike on cooldown. Applies Deep Wounds.
  3. Execute with high Rage (70+) and target below 20% health.
  4. Overpower when available.
  5. Slam to dump Rage (70+) with < 4 Taste For Blood stacks and target above 20% health.
  6. Battle Shout or Commanding Shout to generate Rage.
  7. Heroic Throw if no other abilities are available.

Collossus Smash Priority: Execute this priority when the Collossus Smash debuff is up.

  1. Mortal Strike on cooldown. Applies Deep Wounds.
  2. Execute on cooldown when target is below 20% health.
  3. Slam to dump Rage (40+) or with Recklessness active and target above 20% health.
  4. Overpower when available.

Arms Warrior DPS swaps between two different priorities based on the presence of the Colossus Smash debuff.

When the Colossus Smash debuff is not up, you should execute the Normal Priority listed above. You will want to use Colossus Smash as soon as it is available and move to the Colossus Smash priority. If Colossus Smash is not available, then continue with the Normal Priority by using Mortal Strike on cooldown. Then, use Execute as your Rage (70+) dump when the target is below 20% health. If the target is above 20% health, then use Slam as your Rage (70+) dump, but only when Taste For Blood are at 3 or less stacks. Finally, use Battle Shout or Commanding Shout to generate Rage and Heroic Throw if no other abilities are usable.

With the Colossus Smash buff up, you should execute the Colossus Smash Priority listed above. To do so, you will use Mortal Strike on cooldown. Execute is your Rage dump when the target is below 20% health. Use Slam as your Rage (40+) dump when the target is above 20% health or when Recklessness is up. Finally, use Overpower when available.

AoE Rotation

With 2-3 targets, use Thunder Clap to apply Deep Wounds then activate Sweeping Strikes and proceed with the single target rotation. Maintain Sweeping Strikes as much as possible and refresh Deep Wounds every 15 seconds. At 4+ targets, use Thunder Clap to apply and maintain Deep Wounds and spam Colossus Smash, Slam, and Overpower as available. Don’t forget to use Heroic Leap to quickly close the gap to AoE targets. Use Dragon Roar on cooldown.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.

  • Dragon Roar Use on cooldown for single target and AoE DPS.
  • Bloodbath Use on cooldown for single target and AoE DPS.

These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.
