DPS Rotation & Cooldowns (5.2)

Maintaining a proper Rotation and using the right Cooldowns is essential to maximizing your Frost Mage. Use this guide to optimize your single target and AoE rotations while learning how to get the most out of your cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Armor: Frost Armor

DPS Priority: Execute the following priority for optimal DPS.

  1. Nether Tempest maintain at all times. Procs Brain Freeze.
  2. Frostfire Bolt with Brain Freeze.
  3. Frostbolt to maintain its stacking debuff.
  4. Ice Lance with Fingers of Frost.
  5. Frozen Orb to proc Fingers of Frost.
  6. Frostbolt as a filler spell.

To execute the Frost DPS priority, maintain Nether Tempest at all times. Cast 3 Frostbolt early in the fight to stack its debuff and then maintain this debuff throughout the fight. From here, consume Brain Freeze procs with Frostfire Bolt and Fingers of Frost procs with Ice Lance. Cast Frozen Orb when you have < 2 Fingers of Frost stacked. Finally, cast Frostbolt as a filler spell.

Finally, in addition to executing the DPS priority, you should always remain within a Rune of Power to maximize your Mana regen and DPS.

AoE Rotation

With < 4 enemies, maintain Nether Tempest while casting Flamestrike and Frozen Orb on cooldown. Use Freeze to quickly proc Fingers of Frost for Ice Lance spam, especially if you have Glyph of Ice Lance. At > 4 enemies, continue using Nether Tempest while casting Flamestrike on cooldown, but use Arcane Explosion as a filler spell.

Effective Cooldowns

These effective cooldowns are available if you chose them in your talent build.
