Select a gear item level to improve the accuracy and relevancy of this guide.

The following rotation guide was developed through extensive simulations and play testing with the goal of keeping the guide as simple as possible without sacrificing performance. This guide also included AoE rotations and provides details on when to use special talents and cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

DPS Rotation: Use this priority when your target is below 80% Health.

  1. Chimaera Shot on cooldown.
  2. Kill Shot on targets below 35% Health.
  3. Aimed Shot to dump Focus.
  4. Steady Shot to build Focus.

The Marksmanship Hunter DPS rotation is fairly straightforward. Chimaera Shot is your top priority and should be used on cooldown. When your target drops below 35% Health, begin using Kill Shot on cooldown. Use Aimed Shot to dump Focus and Steady Shot to build Focus. Try to stay above 35 Focus so you can cast Chimaera Shot as soon as it is available.

Note: You no longer need to modify your rotation your rotation during the effects of Careful Aim. Just continue with the standard DPS rotation at all times.

AoE Rotation

Your main source for AoE damage will be Multishot. If you are only attacking 2-3 mobs, it is usually best to just continue with the the single target rotation. Once there are 4+ mobs, continue with the single target rotation but use Multishot in the place of Aimed Shot and watch for Bombardment procs. Maintain Explosive Trap with 4+ targets and continue to cast Kill Shot when available and use Steady Shot as needed for Focus.

Below is advice on how to use the performance-enhancing talents that were selected in this guide.

  • Thrill of The Hunt is mostly used passively, as you will benefit from the Focus reduction on Arcane Shot and Multishot without major changes to your rotation. At most, you should make sure that you do not cap Focus if you get multiple Thrill of The Hunt procs.
  • Stampede should be used as often as possible for burst damage.
  • Powershot should be used on cooldown.
  • Lone Wolf passively increases the damage of your core abilities when you do not have a pet and does not alter your rotation.

Effective Cooldowns

These are effective cooldowns to try and incorporate into most all encounters.
