DPS Rotation & Cooldowns for Unholy Death Knight in PvE | Latest Patch 6.2.4

Select a gear item level to improve the accuracy and relevancy of this guide.

The following rotation guide was developed through extensive simulations and play testing with the goal of keeping the guide as simple as possible without sacrificing performance. This guide also included AoE rotations and provides details on when to use special talents and cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Presence: Unholy Presence

DPS Priority: Execute the following priority for optimal DPS:

  1. Soul Reaper Unholy on target below 45% health.
  2. Frost Fever Blood Plague maintained at all times.
  3. Dark Transformation on cooldown.
  4. Death Coil if Dark Transformation is not active.
  5. Scourge Strike to dump Death and Unholy runes.
  6. Festering Strike to dump Blood and Frost runes.
  7. Death Coil to consume Sudden Doom or to dump excess RP.

Your highest priority should be to keep both diseases active on your target all times. Apply them with Outbreak and refresh them with Plague Strike as needed when they have <= 9 sec remaining. You do not need to use Icy Touch as Ebon Plaguebringer allows Plague Strike to apply Frost Fever. Also, because Festering Strike extends disease duration, often times Outbreak will be off cooldown when your diseases expire.

Your next priority is to use Dark Transformation immediately when it's available. After that, keep Death And Decay down and Scourge Strike with your Unholy and Death Runes. Use Death Coil whenever your Runes are depleted, to consume Sudden Doom procs, or to prevent hitting the Runic Power cap.

Use Festering Strike when you are sitting on Blood and Frost Runes. When your target reaches 35% health, you should prioritize Soul Reaper Unholy above everything except for maintaining your diseases.

AoE Rotation

For trash targets that die quickly, the AoE rotation basically follows the single target rotation. The only difference is to use Blood Boil with your Blood Runes while maintaining Death And Decay.

For targets that will survive for 30 seconds or more, the AoE rotation has a few changes. First, try to use Festering Strike twice before your AoE rotation to reset all of your Frost and Blood Runes as Death Runes. You now have 4 Death Runes to use on Blood Boil spam. These Runes will again refresh as Death Runes so that you can repeat the Blood Boil spam a second time. Maintain Death And Decay at all times and continue to use Death Coil to dump Runic Power and consume Sudden Doom procs.

Below is advice on how to use the performance-enhancing talents that were selected in this guide.
