Rotation & Cooldowns for Frost Death Knight in PvE | Latest Patch 6.0.3

Select a gear item level to improve the accuracy and relevancy of this guide.

The following rotation guide was developed through extensive simulations and play testing with the goal of keeping the guide as simple as possible without sacrificing performance. This guide also included AoE rotations and provides details on when to use special talents and cooldowns.

Single Target Rotation

Presence: Frost Presence (Two-Hand and Dual-Wield)

Dual-Wield Priority: Execute the following priority for Dual-Wield DPS.

  1. Soul Reaper Frost on targets below 35% health.
  2. Frost Fever Blood Plague maintained at all times.
  3. Frost Strike with Killing Machine or if RP will cap.
  4. Howling Blast with Rime procs.
  5. Howling Blast to dump Frost and Death runes.
  6. Obliterate to dump Unholy runes.

Two-Hand Priority: Execute the following priority for Two-Hand DPS.

  1. Soul Reaper Frost on target below 35% health.
  2. Frost Fever Blood Plague maintained at all times.
  3. Obliterate with Killing Machine.
  4. Obliterate with all runes available.
  5. Frost Strike to dump RP.
  6. Howling Blast with Rime procs.

For both play styles, your highest priority is to use Soul Reaper Frost on cooldown against targets below 35% health. After this, you need to maintain diseases on your target all times. Use Outbreak to apply diseases. Howling Blast will automatically apply and refresh Frost Fever, so the only disease you need to keep up is Blood Plague. Simply use Plague Strike with an Unholy rune or Outbreak whenever Blood Plague needs to be refreshed at <= 9 sec remaining. At this point, the two play styles differ slightly and will be discussed separately.

The dual-wield rotation emphasizes consuming Killing Machine procs with Frost Strike and then using Frost Strike to dump excess Runic Power. After this, watch for Rime procs and consume them with Howling Blast. Next, dump your Frost and Death runes with Howling Blast and your Unholy runes with Obliterate.

The two-hand priority emphasizes consuming Killing Machine procs with Obliterate. After this, use Obliterate when your Runes are full and can no longer regenerate. Frost Strike is then used to dump excess Runig Power and Rime procs are used for Howling Blast.

AoE Rotation

Use Blood Boil to quickly spread your diseases. After that, maintain Death And Decay with Unholy runes. Dump your Death and Frost runes with Howling Blast. Dump excess Runic Power with Frost Strike and excess Unholy runes with Plague Strike. Continue to watch for and consume Killing Machine and Rime procs.
